Computing & Information Systems: Databases

A Little Explanation...

As a student or faculty member in CS or IS, you might be wondering why this page doesn't contain information on SQL, Oracle, or object databases.

In library land, we use the word databases to refer to research databases. Generally, these databases are the first place you want to look for articles. Our research databases usually have information about an article (such as the title, abstract, author name(s), name of the journal or magazine the article it appeared in).

Databases also often have information about other types of resources too - sometimes they have information about books, book chapters, government documents, and videos. Notably, the Safari platform from O'Reilly (one of our Library databases) has a wide variety of video format tutorials and case studies, along with thousands of ebooks.
