Computing & Information Systems: Library databases
Using library databases
Many of the databases to the right contain full text. You should see links to HTML or PDF documents when searching for articles.
If you do not see a link to the article you are looking for, click on - this will check the other library databases for the full text of the article.
Best databases
These databases are your best bets for research in all topics related to computing. All of these databases are also full text.
- ACM Digital Library This link opens in a new windowThis database contains the full text of ACM journals, magazines, conference transactions, conference proceedings, newsletters, and many other documents.
- IEEE Xplore This link opens in a new windowThis database contains the full text of many IEEE journals.
- O'Reilly E-books This link opens in a new windowTo access content in the O'Reilly database users must create an account using their GVSU email: in the "Welcome" window, use the "institution not listed" link and enter your GVSU email. Once an account is created users are able to access O'Reilly content on the Web, and to retrieve the O'Reilly app for eBook downloads to your Android or iOS mobile device. O'Reilly Online is a collection of IT technical reference content, computer manuals, books, “learning paths,” case studies, videos, and online tutorials covering certification, enterprise computing, Java, Linux/Unix, Web development, Windows, XML, and more. O'Reilly Media publications form the core of the collection, along with other publishing partner content.
Other useful databases
You might also find these databases useful. Some of these databases just contain article information and abstracts, so you will likely need to make use of the button.
- SpringerLink This link opens in a new windowThrough Springer, the library has full text access to about 40 computer science journals, and about 30 computer engineering journals.
- Web of Science This link opens in a new windowWeb of Science is unique for a database - while you can do normal keyword searches, its strength relies in being able to see the connections between articles and those that cite them.
- Wiley Online Library This link opens in a new windowThis database contains the full-text of about 35 journals in computer science, information science, IT, and programming/software development.
