CIS Faculty Guide to the Library: Finding Books & Media

Books, Encyclopedias, Media, etc.

Search for books and media

  • While half of our books are online, many print books are also in the automated retrieval system (ASRS) in the Pew Campus Steelcase Library and on shelves in the library in Allendale. "Call numbers" are a subject-grouping system, that also can serve as shelf locations, in order alphabetically then numerically.
  • Books in the call number areas QA71 through QA76 are on different aspects of computing, computing technology, and computer languages.
  • Use the Advanced Search to easily narrow your search to specific media (e.g. books, or DVDs, films, etc.). If we don't have what you're looking for, check 'Borrowing Books From Other Libraries' in the box below -- Or contact your Engineering Liaison Librarian, Avery Olearczyk (olearcza@gvsu.edu).

Borrowing Books from Other Libraries

On February 1, 2021 GVSU Libraries will temporarily stop borrowing books from other libraries via MeLCat as GVSU Libraries change our search software. In the meantime, you can request items we do not own through our Document Delivery service, or pick up MeLCat loans from your public library. Learn more about this service change.
