Using Articles to Find Data
If you find research articles that refer to data the authors collected or analyzed, it's possible you may be able to access their data. In databases like PubMed, CINAHL, PsycInfo, and Web of Sciences. If you're looking for data this way, give these tricks a try:
- When you find an article and want to see the accompanying data, try looking at the very end of the article for "appendices"
- While reading an article's methods or results sections, keep an eye out for embedded links that may take you to the data
- Search for the article on Google Scholar and see if that link to the article takes you to an interface where the data may be publicly available
- When all else fails, you can always reach out to an author and ask if they would be willing to share their data with you! Many authors are excited to share their work in this way
- PubMedPubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, is a publicly available online database of biomedical and medical journal records. It includes MEDLINE content.
- CINAHL Complete This link opens in a new windowThis database provides access to health science literature related to nursing and allied health disciplines. In addition, it includes standards of practice and evidence-based care guidelines.
