Knight Lab's "open-source tool that enables anyone to build visually rich, interactive timelines. Beginners can create a timeline using nothing more than a Google spreadsheet.... Experts can use their JSON skills to create custom installations, while keeping TimelineJS's core functionality" (Knight Lab). You will need to use only images from the internet.

ReadWriteThink

ReadWriteThink Timeline

Very easy to use, and available as a desktop application as well as for android and iOS tablets. Timelines can be organized by time of day, date, or event, and users can create a label with short or long descriptive text. Images can be downloaded. You don't have to create an account to create a timeline. You are also able to save drafts of your timeline, and upload to the site again when you want to finish it. There are limitations in the number of entries you can have, and it is around 12.

Visme

Visme Timelines

"Easy-to-customize timeline maker. Lots of infographic templates to choose from. A timeline maker made for non-designers" (Visme). It says that it is free to create, but you need to pay if you want to create more than 5. You can use pre-made templates or create your own. There's a how to along with examples on the homepage.

Timetoast

Timetoast Timelines

You can: "Add events or multi-date timespans, automatically have your events placed on the appropriate timescale, zoom and pan your timeline, add BCE dates, year-only dates as well as dates with a specific month and day, upload images" (Timetoast). You can have free or paid accounts. With the free account, you can only have one person editing the timeline, there will be ads on it, you can only have one draft timeline and you can have unlimited public timelines but no private ones (for more information, click here)

Sutori

Sutori Timeline Presentations

Presentation-based timeline application. You get a detailed explanation of how to use it upon registering for it. You can pay or have a free account. More details here.

Microsoft Templates

Microsoft Office PowerPoint and Excel Templates

A version of Microsoft Office suite (or at least PowerPoint and Excel) will be necessary. Download the templates and edit as you go! These timelines will not be as interactive as the rest on this list, but they will still be timelines! You can also get these type of templates for Google docs: Google Doc Templates.
